Elevator Marble Flooring

Glossary Elevator Marble Flooring

Natural or engineered marble stone tiles installed as the cab floor finish, selected for durability, aesthetics, and compliance with slip-resistance requirements for elevator interiors.

Full Definition
Elevator marble flooring uses natural marble (calcite or dolomite metamorphic rock) or engineered marble (resin-bonded stone aggregate) cut into tiles and installed on the car platform structure. Technical considerations: (1) weight — marble density 2600–2800 kg/m³; slab thickness typically 15–20 mm; total added floor load 40–55 kg/m² must be included in the car self-weight declaration and load test; (2) slip resistance — finished surface must achieve pendulum test value (PTV) ≥ 36 (wet) per EN 13845 or BS 7976-2 for passenger lifts; honed or brushed finishes are preferred over polished; (3) adhesive and grout — flexible tile adhesive (C2 deformable class, EN 12004) and epoxy grout resist vibration-induced debonding; (4) edge protection — stainless steel threshold plates at car entrance prevent chipping and provide a smooth transition to landing floor; (5) maintenance — marble is susceptible to etching by acidic cleaners; neutral pH products only. Engineered marble panels (e.g., Dekton, Lapitec) offer superior impact and chemical resistance and are increasingly specified for high-traffic commercial elevators.
