Anti-vibration pads for elevator machines are engineered from natural rubber, neoprene, or composite rubber-metal sandwich constructions, selected to achieve a natural frequency well below the dominant machine excitation frequency (typically 10–50 Hz for PMSM machines). The pad stiffness is matched to the static load of the machine plus dynamic forces, targeting a deflection of 5–15 mm under rated load. Incorrect pad selection — too stiff or too soft — can amplify vibration rather than attenuate it. In MRL (machine-room-less) systems, pads are placed between the machine bracket and the guide rail or overhead beam. For geared machine rooms, pads sit beneath the full bedplate. Compliance with ISO 10846 provides test methodology for dynamic stiffness characterisation. Pad condition should be inspected annually; hardening, cracking, or permanent set indicates replacement is needed.
