Simplex control is the most fundamental elevator traffic management arrangement, applying to a single lift installation. In simplex operation, the controller answers car calls and hall calls in a logical sequence without coordinating with other elevators. Typical implementations include selective collective simplex (answering calls in one direction before reversing) and non-collective simplex (answering one call at a time, nearest-first). Simplex control is common in residential, small office, and goods lift applications where a single car serves moderate demand. Performance targets such as handling capacity and average waiting time are less critical than in group-controlled multi-elevator systems.
