The controller is the brain of the elevator system. Modern controllers use microprocessors or PLCs running proprietary firmware to manage the dispatch algorithm, motor speed curve profile, door timing, floor levelling, safety circuit monitoring, and fault logging. Communication between the controller and car-top devices uses the travelling cable; communication to landing fixtures typically uses a serial bus or CAN bus to reduce wiring complexity.
